Use of the bicycle - nothing is eternalWhen we ride a bike we must be conscious of it, that its parts wear out. Some of them wear out faster, different slower, but it is completely normal. Brake blocks, tyres and a drive run down with every kilometre. The drive: the chain, the crank and ratchets of the rear wheel. If we have the brake of the V-breake type, it very slowly but systematically hoops of wheels which are being torn by brake blocks wear out. All cords and armours are also surrendering to the slow wear and tear with the help which we are restraining and we are changing gear. A change of the drive is the costliest therefore it is worthwhile caring about it. From the entire drive the most a chain interests us. We should care for so that it is always just enough clean and oiled. For the conservation of the chain we use only special oils. It isn't possible to grease the chain with solid grease. Provided statement when we should replace tyres or brake blocks it is quite obvious, it isn't so easy with the chain. Chain during the ride it is surrendering to continuous stretching what is causing the change in its length in the longer tense. Into the measure of the passage of time, the longer chain is destroying ratchets of the rear wheel, and then ratchets of the crank. There are two tested methods of the change of the drive. First total using up the chain and ratchets until it starts jumping on cogs. It is a signal for the immediate exchange of the chain and the cassette sprockets. The second method is the following. In the moment when we are buying the new bicycle, we are also buying the other chain the same which is in our bicycle. After travelling 500 km we are establishing the spare chain, after next we are covering the first chain again with 500 km. Such exchangeable taking two chains permits travelling of large amounts of kilometres on the same cassette sprockets. Using the chain up is depending from conditions it worked at which and from its correct conservation. Main Page |
