How well to choose the size of the frame

Asking about the size of the frame is very difficult because the reply isn't so obvious. I am an opponent of calculating the size of the frame on the basis of abundant lines which turn up at bicycle magazines. It is necessary simply to try the bicycle, and to treat all calculations as very approximate value.

Height of the frame

Stand up above the upper pipe of the frame, tighten the back brake and lift the steering wheel up till this moment until you feel the cold touch of steel in the delicate place (it is a well-known fact what it concerns). In the coincidence of bicycles of the type the trekking, the cross or for a road it will be enough if the wheel is 10 cm above land. For MTB bicycles it must be an at least 15 cm.

Length of the frame

The length of the frame decides the position on a bike. If the upper pipe is short we will be sitting close the handlebar, having the more upright position. A short upper pipe is a good choice for people who like comfort. The long pipe is for athletes and it requires bending over the handlebar but thanks to that the cyclist has the high performance during steep inclines.

The saddle and the handlebar

A difference of levels between the saddle and the handlebar is also important. When the handlebar is lower than the saddle the bicycle has more sports character. If the saddle is below the handlebar or on the similar level it means that we are dealing with the luxurious bicycle. When we come to the good shop the specialist will advise us what size of the frame will be right. If we find some model of the bicycle which interests us in the shop it is certainly in a few sizes of frames and this way it is possible to choose the appropriate one. To make sure if the size of the frame is right it is worthwhile to travel several dozen metres on a bike.
