Coming in at 26 inches in diameter, this is a very versatile mountain bike tire. It comes with an endless edge design that gives a mountain bike perfect cornering traction. It is an extremely lightweight tire but incredibly durable, so punctures are unlikely.

The wide grip tread reduces rolling resistance on hard surfaces like pavement, while it has enough grip to easily take on a sandy surface. It can be used as the front tire or a back tire and works well either way. For that reason, it is one of the most versatile tires on the list!

The Maxxis Minion DHF is our top recommendation for a burly and aggressive front tire. This beefy model is one of the most popular tires of all time and is considered a benchmark against which all other tires are compared. The 24 inch Reyes frame is designed with versatility in mind. Your young rider will feel comfortable on or off the trail with Pellos ride right geometry. Its a well-balanced bike that is able to go wherever your kids decide they want to go on or off the beaten path.

The Reyes can also be upgraded with an RST F1RST air fork with 60mm of travel. Although the Minions measured narrower than Maxxis claims, they still had a fantastically rounded profile on my test rims.

The side knobs angled slightly outwards, which increased cornering capabilities and predictability, making it possible to lean the bike over a long way before they broke traction.

The Minions are beautifully easy to predict and control on the edge of grip too, which meant forcing slides was fun and intuitive.

They also provided great grip on hardpack, especially rocky dirt or dry ground.

Rolling speed was also excellent, thanks to the raised central knobs and round profile limiting the amount of tyre in contact with the ground.

This adversely affected braking traction, though, making it limited at best. The EXO+ carcass provided plenty of stability for a front tyre and didnt puncture during the testing period, but I have ripped them when used on the rear.

The MaxxTerra compound had ample grip on dry terrain and at slower speeds on roots, but once the trails got wet or I was riding faster, the extra security of the MaxxGrip compound would have been welcome although not all casing and widths are available in all of Maxxis compounds.

The tyres inflated on my 30mm wide test rims without issue using a track pump, and only needed 25psi for the bead to form a seal around the rims hook.

The DHF is an ideal speed-focused, dry-weather tyre.

This mountain bike tire features an aggressive tread pattern with large lugs that are precisely measured out. The lug spacing is important because it is what allows the tire to get rid of mud and sand off the tire as you ride.

The CST has been awarded a top rating and is definitely the best-selling tire. Most riders have no issues with the tire, other than assembly, and occasional punctures on harder terrain.

We ride these tires ourselves so we were pumped when Maxxis moved from heavy DH casing to the lighter EXO , Tubeless Ready, 3C compound for the 24 size. The 20 inch DHR II comes in at 554 grams . Now our kids can get the grip and cornering of these awesome tires. We really like the DHF for the bike park and shuttling but perhaps too much rolling resistance for the little guys and gals who are going to be primarily climbing to earn their turns. We would run DHR II front and rear for any climbers out there.

This is one of the most highly rated mountain bike tires, and most riders love the performance that it gives. However, several riders have left reviews claiming issues on wet terrain. They find that wet terrain causes the tires to slip and lose traction, so it is best to find dry ground when riding on hard surfaces.

Girls And Boys 24 Inch Mountain Bikes

While there are some differences in geometry in mens and womens mountain bikes, in kids mountain bikes, there really isnt a difference when it comes to gender. All kids mountain bikes are gender-neutral. We dont know of a company that makes a girls 24 inch mountain bike.

If your child does happen to have a longer or shorter reach, swapping out the stem of the bike can make a big difference in the reach of the bike. If your child has a shorter torso, they are likely to need a shorter stem and vice versa.
