Dirt Bike Riding Style
Track, trail, racing, enduro – many types and styles of dirt bike riding exist. If you love banging around wood trails, backcountry roads or racing against other 2-strokes – then of course the 2-stroke is probably your best bet. Additionally, the pop a 2-stroke provides on the top-end is addicting and something the 4-stroke simply does not have. Aggressive and skilled riders love the challenge a 2-stroke offers and the fun factor associated with riding it.
Racing is a different story. The 4-stroke bike offers a smoother and is easier to ride as the powerband on the 2-stroke requires more shifting. The 2-stroke wears the rider out faster therefore for long rides and some styles of racing, especially against other 4-strokes, the 4-stroke bike is the best choice.
Finally, beginners should find the 250 4-stroke easier to handle. The 2-stroke dirt bike brings such a burst of power a beginner might have a hard time controlling the ride. Additionally, with the extra shifting and braking required to ride a 2-stroke, the 4-stroke is an ideal way to start our great sport.
In light of this however, the 2-stroke forces you to learn the major fundamentals of dirt bike riding that make you a better rider. Power control, shifting, breaking, cornering and even staying upright can all be mastered on the 2-stroke allowing you to easily transfer to the heavier 4-stroke models.
Once you get the fundamentals down – then you can enter the 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke debate!
Should I Get A 250cc Or 450cc Dirt Bike
If youre just starting out in the dirt bike world, youve probably seen that there are numerous manufacturers, multiple engine sizes, and hundreds of available dirt bikes.
Knowing which dirt bike to get isnt an easy feat, its confusing and people are going to tell you different things based on what they ride and what their riding abilities are. The thing is, your riding abilities are going to be different. Especially if youre a beginner or if youve had a long break from the track.
If youre a beginner, wed recommend a 250cc dirt bike to start out with. This doesnt mean youre weaker or not strong enough to handle a 450cc dirt bike. Its a precautionary measure we ourselves would take if we were beginners.
450cc bikes are a lot more powerful and much heavier than 250cc bikes. If youre not used to riding or holding that much weight in your hands, for your own safety, start off with a 250cc dirt bike.
That being said, if youve had a long break from the dirt bike track and are thinking of coming back, you might be able to pick up where you left off with a 450cc. That doesnt mean you wont be sore tomorrow!
Here is what you need to keep in mind when choosing a dirt bike:
- Your weight
- Your fitness and strength levels
- The type of terrain you plan to ride on
- Whether dirt bike riding is a hobby or something a little more serious
- Your riding and handling ability
Here are the differences and similarities between 250cc bikes and 450cc bikes:
The Fastest 600cc To 700cc Dirt Bikes
Most riders, including experienced dirt bikers, cannot handle the power that comes with 650 to 700cc bikes. These bikes can easily handle steep climbs at high speeds, and some of them are designed to reach 60mph within less than 6 seconds.
So if you’re looking for a bike whose acceleration will blow your mind, then you should go for 650cc dirt bikes.

Unveiled as a prototype at the Milan Show in 1989, the CX is a bike so bonkers few expected it would ever enter production but it did. Designed by Federico Martini it stands out quite literally for its radical single-sided arm suspension front and rear which, from the right hand side, gives the impression the wheels arent attached at all.
They are, of course, to a state of the art liquid-cooled, 125cc two-stroke screaming out 30bhp and twin spar chassis all dressed in space age bodywork.

So Which Is Right For Me
Ultimately, you have to decide which bike is the best fit for your riding style and ability.
If youre racing professionally , lean toward the 4-stroke. The same holds for hardcore riders who want maximum power and torque, but who dont mind rebuilding their bike every 50 hours to the tune of $500.
For weekend warriors and beginners, a newer 250-cc 2-stroke offers the ridability of most 4-strokes, minus some torque. Plus, theyre less expensive to maintain. A 250-cc 4-stroke is also a great option since its less expensive, lighter and easier to ride for a beginner.
