Of course, to really bring home the groceries or make a run to the FedEx center, youll probably need more than a commuter bike with a basket hanging off the handlebars. There are some bikes that really lean into cargo, and the RadWagon 4 is one of the best. How Long Do Electric Bike Batteries Last
The last thing you want to do is run out of juice right when youre sitting at the bottom of a monster hill. Most electric bikes have lithium-ion battery packs with 8Ah-14Ah capacity, with voltage from 24V-36V. Depending on the model you choose, your battery life can differ greatly. As a general guide, the most common battery in electric bikes is a 36V 10Ah battery. This battery will take you 50km using the highest level of assistance or 100km using the lowest. The higher the Ah range of your battery, generally, the longer you can ride for.
Its important to remember that these are just guides. Things like hills, wind and carrying heavy weight can drain the battery faster. Most electric bike batteries will last around 500 charges, but they should be replaced every three years.
Aventon Soltera Review: The Competition
Other inexpensive e-bike options are vast. Many of them feature sourced motors without branding, and batteries that may or may not come from reputable sources. Aventons Soltera is no different the motor is branded Aventon but was sourced somewhere else.
I reached out to Aventon for clarification on where they got the motor and battery the company told me the motor was white-labeled, and the battery features either Samsung or LG cells packed by a third-party supplier. The battery in my test bike is labeled Phylion.
Samsung and LG are both reputable names, which is important when youre considering battery life, repairability, and recyclability. But keep in mind that third-party assemblers may also glue the casings closed, which makes it difficult or impossible to repair batteries, since the casing will need to be pried apart to access the contents within. I couldnt tell just by looking at the battery how it is enclosed or whether it is repairable.
Other bikes in the category of inexpensive e-bikes include the $999 Swft Volt, and Ride1Ups Core5 and Roadster V2, among many others.

So What Is An Electric Hunting Bike
Contrary to popular belief it’s not just a standard ebike with a camo paint job, There’s a lot more to it than that. The excellent electric hunting bikes that well look at later in the write-up start with the motor, a motor that is powerful enough to carry a 300lb rider and still tow a trailer with lots of gear.
The bike is then designed and built around that motor. The bike frame needs to be built to withstand the rough terrain but light enough to lift out of your truck or trailer.
Front suspension is an essential aspect of a smooth ride. Nobody wants to clamp their finely tuned bow to their handlebars only to ride 10 miles rocking and vibrating all the way in. Ebikes built for hunting also have fat tires ranging between 4 and 4.8 so they get a lot of traction on soft and loose terrain.
One on the list actually has a walk-assist mode too. Imagine you are pulling a load on the bike trailer and you come to terrain or hill that youre not confident navigating on the saddle. You can walk beside the bike with the walk-assist engaged at 3 mph and the ebike motor does the heavy lifting.
As I explain which 11 ebikes make the list and why, take note of the different types of motors. The motor is the most important aspect of the hunting ebike and depending on what you use it for and where you plan to use it, should be the biggest factor when choosing your next electric hunting bike.

Quality That Exceeds Its Price
The $3,299 Priority Current is a great e-bike that performs like and resembles a normal bike. It can be used with its 500-watt mid-drive torque-sensing motor on or completely turned off. There are a lot of e-bikes out there that are pretty much useless or unbearable to ride if not providing some level of assistance. That is not the case with the Current: You don’t experience dead weight or motor resistance — a common issue with a lot of other hub-motor e-bikes.
The Current uses a proprietary mid-drive motor that allows riders to take full advantage of the Envolio NuVinci gearing system and the Gates Carbon Drive CDX to make for a smooth ride, and requires minimum upkeep. With a mid-drive motor and rear gearing, both the rider and the bike’s motor need to do less work when shifting, and changing gears even on an incline is effortless and silent. If you’ve never tried an Envolio system I strongly recommend hitting up a local bike shop and seeing if it has any Envolio-equpped bikes for a test ride.
When it comes time to stop, the Current has Tektro dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes. The cables are run internally through the frame for a clean look and where the cables exit the frame there’s a protective wrap around them to prevent any damage to the housing.
Best Electric Bike For Customization
If it can be put on a bicycle, Rad Power Bikes probably offers it. With a slew of accessories, you can outfit one of the company’s nine different electric bike models for cargo, kids or just riding through the mud.
We got our hands on the RadRunner 1 electric bike with a rear bench and foot pegs. This particular configuration is great for a parent wanting to get out and run errands with their little ones on board the electric cargo bike. The 48-volt, 14-amp-hour battery powers a 750-watt motor that can pedal-assist or throttle the RadRunner up to 20 mph. With four levels of assistance, riders can increase or decrease it to help conserve battery, if necessary, or make it up steep hills.
The step-through frame makes it easy to mount and dismount, even with a passenger or packages on the rear of the bike. The RadRunner is rated to support up to 300 pounds. I can assure you it does that, as my passengers and I pushed past the weight limit without any problems.

Best Affordable Electric Bikes Of 2022
Budget conscious? Here are my top picks for best affordable electric bikes of 2022. You can have confidence in the capabilities of these ebikes. Youll notice that I dont go too cheap with these winners, because Ive found that the very cheapest products do not use reliable or replaceable parts, and they usually lack warranty and customer support. My chosen ebikes have more dependable motors, batteries, and drivetrains. When comparing affordable ebikes, its wise to rely on common sense you get what you pay for and if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. These top three picks are summarized below. The Swifty Ebike In Use
You could easily be forgiven that an electric bike at this price point is going to be awful to ride. The fact that the Swifty isnt and is actually a competent steed is a marvel to behold. Ive ridden bikes costing 4x as much as the Swifty which are not as much fun and actually heavier in weight.
The bike arrives in a large box with the handlebars, wheels, seat and pedals off its a fairly simple job to attach these and there are videos on Swiftys website to help you if youre not use to wielding an allen key. Once you have the ride height set up and the battery charged youre good to go.
The motor is a peach and is activated by a long-press of the power button on the display unit. It provides a really substantial shove in the back on the highest power setting once youre moving along and peddling. Shifting between the seven gears is simple and definitely needed on the steeper hills. I recommend stopping peddling before shifting otherwise there is a slim chance of snapping your chain with the torque from the motor.
There are some weak areas of the Swifty, but none are catastrophic.
Thats about it really. Theres a cool walk mode I forgot to mention. If you get fed up of riding or come across a particularly steep hill then you can walk alongside the bike and flip into this mode the bike will then walk alongside you which means you dont have to push 24kg uphill useful!

Best Electric Bikes Above $5000
You just couldnt stop, could you? I showed you plenty of awesome e-bikes that didnt cost most of a paycheck. But you just haaaaad to keep going.
Fine, here they are. These are some of the most expensive e-bikes out there that weve tested and that Id actually recommend someone buying, if you can pony up the cash.
How Much Battery Capacity Do I Need
As with all technologies, itâs easy to look back at some original e-bikes and notice how bulky they looked. Batteries were bolted onto frames wherever there was space and were often very low capacity. Fortunately, weâre beginning to see much bigger capacity batteries and sleeker integration of both batteries and motors.
Typically, the smaller the physical size of the battery, the lower its capacity, and the fewer miles youâll get out of it. For most people, this shouldnât be an issue, with even small batteries having enough juice to get you to work where you can charge up again or serving duty for multiple days of commuting.
Battery size is most often expressed in watt-hours , and the amount of assistance youâll get from it depends on how much you ask of it. For example, a 300 watt-hour battery can provide 300 watts of assistance for one hour, or 100 W of assistance for 3 hours.
A battery can weigh several kilograms and make up a significant proportion of an electric bike’s weight. That’s okay in a non-folding bike, although it can make moving the bike to a storage area at the end of a ride harder. It’s more of an issue with a folding bike designed for portability, so a bike like the Brompton C Line Electric will often have a lower capacity battery to make it easier to carry.

Vitesse Stream Folding E
The idea of combining e-power with extreme portability is what drove us to test out the Vitesse Stream Folding Electric Bike. We were not disappointed.
The Stream features a high quality Samsung battery contained within a thickened crossbar section adjacent to the handlebars. The frame is 6061 aluminium all round. The battery has a 378 Wh capacity which offers around 25-30 miles range in the real world not bad at all for a nice loop in the country .
Power is supplied by a Bafang 30Nm hub motor in the rear 20 wheel. Its not the most powerful motor in the world, but the bike is correspondingly not that heavy . You never feel underpowered and indeed peddling along the flat and up gentle gradients is a breeze. Bafang are a well known motor manufacturer and we have confidence that this motor will last the distance.
Braking is adequate using the Promax V-brake system you would not expect to get discs at this price point, but we always miss them a little bit when theyre not fitted.
Gearing is where it gets interesting. The Stream uses the Shimano Revoshift 7-speed system with rapid-fire shifters, meaning you have a choice of 7 gears on the rear cassette with a standard rear derailleur. We found it shifted well, even under power but on ebikes its always sensible to stop peddling before shifting in order to preserve wear and tear on the chain and sprockets.
