Affordable Carbon Full Suspension Rigs The Diamondback Mission Carbon 1 & 2
Posted on May 12, 2022 by Ron Frazelle
Coming soon from the Diamondback Bicycles crew are the new Mission Carbon 1 and Mission Carbon 2 all-mountain bikes. Both seem to be well specd, affordable long-travel full-suspension rigs, with the Mission 1 coming in at a surprising sub $5k!
Check out some of the deets from Diamondbacks below!
Short And Upright Riding Position
The Atroz 2 comes in 3 sizes, Small, Medium, and Large. Diamondback claims the Large fits riders up to 6 feet, 1 inches tall, but if youre close to that size, test ride this bike before buying it. The reach is just 435mm. Thats on the short side for a size medium mountain bike today. It also comes with a short 50mm stem. Stems are easy to change if you want a little more extension, but tall riders with long torsos may find it tough to get the position they prefer on this bike. That said, if you dont like the idea of stretching out and want a bike that can let you sit very upright, without reaching for the bars, youll get that here. The taller stack heights will also accommodate a more upright riding position without needing a ton of spacers under your stem.
Great Dimension For Wheels
The Recoil Complete Bike being mentioned here in this review has 27.5 inch wheels. Though other sizes are available for more bikes but the 27.5 inch standard is voted to be the best when it comes to the balance between speed, control and all terrain challenge. This size is the easiest one to control rather than 29 inches size which can prove to be daunting in mountain trails. The lighter and sleek wheels can easily accelerate and also lighter.
- Aluminum body frame reduces overall weight and is durable.
- Mechanical disc brakes is available on both front and rear wheels.
- Comes with 24 speed control gears.
- 27.5 inch wheels offer the best in class performance.

Your Gateway Drug To Mountain Biking
Mentioned earlier but worth reiterating: if youre shopping for a bike you might race at some point, this isnt the bike for you. For the same money you can get a hardtail that will better serve your needs.
The Atroz 2 is in its element on flow trails and smoother singletrack. It handles small roots and rocks reasonably well, and the rear shock has a pleasantly sensative feel to it. As a bonus, you can adjust the rebound to fine tune the ride feel a little. You can ride some gnarly, east coast rocks on this bike, but youll be pushing the edge of its capabilities. Rough rail trails, mild singletrack, and choppy fire roads are where this bike will serve you best.
Consider the Atroz 2 a gateway drug to the rowdier side of mountain biking. It will take you right to the edge and let you have a peak at the other side. From there, its on you whether you stick to the straight and narrow or dive in head-first.

Mtb Care & Maintenance
Be acquainted with the components that make up your bike. The bolds should be tightened checked regularly but not always tightened. It is possible to damage or over-tighten bolts which is why there is no need to tighten them before every single ride.
Typically, a bike will come with plastic pedals which are not recommended for trail biking. Invest in better pedals early on and avoid unnecessary hassle.
It is particularly important to look after your chain well. This prevents rust and corrosion which can ruin your biking experience. Make sure that your chain is well lubricated before any ride.
Suspensions usually run on lubricant. This is to ensure smooth sliding. Unfortunately, dirt and muck are attracted to the outer parts of the seals which can cause wear and tear. Wipe them clean whenever you lubricate your bike chain.
Before going for a ride, it is good to check the pressure in your tires. The right pressure for your bike is dependent on your weight, the type of tire being used, the terrain you are biking on, the weather, and your own preference.

Safe And Effective Disc Brakes
The Diamondback Bicycles Recoil Complete Full Suspension Mountain Bike may come at a tight budget, but it did not compromise one bit when it comes to user safety. Disc brakes are not only safe but they offer more protection. The Recoil Trail puts into action,Tektro Aries mechanical disc brakes which offer unmatched braking ability. While most budget friendly MTBs recline towards normal padded brakes, or cheaper disc brakes, this bike offers disc brakes on both rear and front wheels. This offers greater control while rough terrain rides where out of control speeds can cause danger.
Best Full Suspension Mountain Bike Under 2000 In 2022
Mountain biking has recently become one of my favorite pass times. Feeling the wind in my hair and the burn in my calves as I climb higher and higher up a hill is the best rush of adrenaline you can feel. The outdoors at its finest.
I have never been an active person. To be honest, I hate exercising, but when I was introduced to mountain biking it was as if I had found my lifelong hobby. I could not believe the amount of fun I was having while burning calories.
With that being said, I do not make that much money and my fear was choosing a bike that was cheap but also cheaply made. Who wants their bike falling apart when you are in the middle of nowhere? The only mountain bike I will ever feel safe riding is a full-suspension mountain bike.
Though it is my favorite mountain bike design, I needed affordable options that would not break my bank. Eventually, I found the best full suspension mountain bike for under 2000 USD after many tried-and-error sessions. Check out our reviews to make the process less stressful for you to enjoy yours.

Mongoose Exlipse Full Dual
This lightweight steel bike is the perfect for the younger mountain biker. With 21 speeds, this bike is great for trails as well as neighborhood joyrides. Turn some heads, just like we did, and have a whole lot of fun in the process.
You would not expect a bike at such a low price to be in perfect shape after 5 months of continuous use, but stranger things have happened. Be aware that it took us some time to assemble the bike, but we did not find it too complicated.
The size of this bike proves that it is best suited to girls aged 8 to 11. Boys can ride it too if they have no problem cycling around on a pink bike. We discovered, however, that adults who are quite short or have short legs are well suited for this bike.
This bike has no problems with your foot hitting the wheel, unlike what we encountered with the Impasse. Another difference between the 2 is that the Exlipse may require tools to adjust the seat.
Another feature of this bike is that the seat is not connected to the body of the bike. We know that may seem strange, but the shock absorbing quality will make you thankful for it. Remember that just because it is small, does not mean that you should not wear a matching pink helmet.
- Steel frame adds extra weight
- Takes time to assemble
Lots Of Gear Options:
The Recoil Complete Full Suspension Mountain Bike has been enhanced with 24 speed control gears. This is the result of 8 cog cassettes and triple chain ring crank from Suntour. The benefits are noticed by people often riding on mountain trails. The 24 speeds offer bikers enough choice to choose from while controlling their ride on rough terrains. This many speed options can come handy on situations like downhill rides on rough terrains where one has to keep balance while pedaling and still maintain a speed limit.

Mountain Biking Safety Tips
- Wear protective gear
Never forget that safety is a priority when mountain biking. Make sure that you wear a helmet, gloves, good shoes, and protective glasses. The helmet, gloves and glasses will protect you from physical injury.
The right shoes are needed to allow adequate grip on your bike pedals. It is preferred that you wear shoes without laces to prevent them from getting caught in the bike chain.
- Brush up on first aid
Having some beginner first aid training has never hurt anyone. In the case of an injury, it is good for you to have some basic knowledge on first aid. Keep a pocket first aid kit on hand whenever you go out biking. This knowledge could save your life one day.
- Other essential tips
- When going downhill, lower your seat to maintain your center of gravity
- Avoid biking on wet or soft trails
- Bring along a patch kit or something similar in case you have mechanical problems
- Never go faster than you can control. Staying in control of your bike is essential.
- Test your equipment before you go out on a ride
- Try not to go biking alone. In the case of an accident, having another person nearby could be lifesaving
Best Mountain Bikes Under $600 Guide
Below are some things to consider when looking at mountain bikes. At this price point there are some really good values and some bikes that are priced well above their component specs.
What should a $600 Mountain Bike Have?
The better end of $600 mountain bikes should have a few things.
- It will be a hard tail meaning no rear suspension.
- 27.5inch or 29inch wheels.
- Suntour XCM or XCT front suspension fork.
- Shimano Altus or Tourney components.
- Disc Brakes that may be hydraulic or cable pull.
- 3x driveline meaning it will have 3 chain rings and between 7 and 9 rear cogs.
- Presta valves on the tubes
- It will weigh between 30 and 35 lbs.
What Wont A $600 Mountain Bike Have?
It should not be full suspension. Any full suspension bike below about $1500 is just putting on junk parts and will have no damping. Too many corners are being cut for it to be a good usable bike at this price point. It should not have 26 inch wheels. If the bike has any of these you should avoid it. Its not a good value and you can do better.
What Can I Get If I Spend More Than $600?
Going above $600 you will get upgrades to driveline and suspension fork. Parts will get more durable and lighter weight. Youll move from a 3x driveline to a 2x or 1x. They will also start adding in things like tubeless ready rims and tires and all brakes will be hydraulic.

20 x 4 Chaoyang tires allow this bike to roll over almost anything in its path while being maneuverable and having a high level of traction, even on soft or wet terrain.
The high-tensile steel frame balances comfort and toughness as it absorbs shock and resists the wear and tear expected with childrens bikes. Tire Size And Rim Width
A typical tire is about 2.4 to 2.6 inches wide. Wider tires are ideal for softer surfaces for example, snow or mud while narrower tires are ideal for harder surfaces and bumpy trails.
Unlike tires, rims can be much pricier and more complicated to change. Cross-country trips ideally use rims of less than 25mm. 26 to 30mm rims can hold tires between 2.2 to 2.7 inches wide.2.3 to 3.1-inch tires require rims larger than 31mm.
Diamondback Bicycles Atroz 3 Full Suspension Mountain Bike
Unlike other bikes on this list, this hand-built aluminum alloy bike comes in 3 different sizes to accommodate different heights. The lightweight design makes this bike fast and smooth to ride. The shock absorbing suspension frame is well built and is 4 inches in length.
The small size is 16 inches and is ideal for people who are between 54 and 57 in height. A medium is 18 inches and works well for those who are between 57 and 510 in height. The largest size available is 20 inches and is designed to accommodate people between 510 and 61 in height.
Some minor assembly is required before using the bike but, as we discovered, it is simple and speedy to build with minimal tuning needed. The black matte finish makes this bike stylish alongside its functionality. A small issue we encountered is that the handlebars are quite wide, but this did not change the quality of our ride.
The hydraulic disc brakes are positioned on the front and back tires. They offer strong braking power and bring this durable bike to a crisp stop. This bike can be used on smooth trails, as well as the toughest terrain, without any difficulties.
11 gears make this bike easy to use on different inclines and declines. You will feel in control of your bike and ride making it safe to use. This bike is durable enough to undergo aggressive riding, small jumps and drops without any damage to the components.

Frame Material: Aluminum Vs Carbon
Well manufactured carbon fiber is the best material for bikes for a balance of performance and comfort. It is more susceptible to damage, though, and currently the most expensive to produce.
Aluminum is easy to use, cheap to buy, and can make durable, light, and affordable frames that perform better than cheap carbon frames when manufactured well.
- Diamondbacks 6061-T6 aluminum Durable, affordable, lightweight.
- Carbon Lightweight, great vibration dampening.
Mm Fork And 100mm Of Rear Travel
Diamondback packs a lot of value into this 900 dollar package, which is something they are known to do. Adding a rear suspension system to a bike adds significant cost, but careful savings in other aspects of the bike have produced a very rideable bike at an insanely cheap price .
One area Diamondback cut some costs was by using quick releases instead of thru-axles, which, experts tell us, can add up to 300 dollars to the retail price of the bike. But at this level they dont provide a big enough value, in terms of performance, to be worth such a significant percentage of the overall price. Another tradeoff is the wheels and tires arent tubeless ready.
Those cuts allow Diamondback to give you more value where it counts, like the smooth Suntour Raidon-R air shock. The 1x drivetrain is another nice perk on a bike at this price, as are the Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. Those are a bonus thats not even ubiquitous on hardtail mountain bikes. The Suntour XCM fork offers 120mm of travel, so you do have room to get a little rowdy, and a nice set of alloy platform pedals are included as well. Its a complete, ready-to-ride package.
