Windy Gap Ohv Trail System
The trail system is in the Chattahoochee National Forest. It offers 12 miles of challenging trails two ATV trails and a motorcycle trail for experienced riders. The rugged ATV trails have rocky, gravel sections and creek crossings. On the other hand, the linear motorcycle trail will take riders through some pretty steep hill climbs, big rocks, narrow switchbacks, and lots of trees.
The paths are open from April 1- December 31. Four-wheelers can ride in some trail areas, but UTVs, SXS, SUVs, Jeeps, dune buggies, and sand rails are prohibited. Camping is allowed in developed sites only. There are no fees for riding and parking, but there is a charge for camping. This place has 4 motocross tracks which are open to dirt bike riders which hold an AMA Pro License. This is a professional place and its run by Mark Barnett whos a former national champion. Houston Valley OHV Trails has 25 miles of marked, rated, and heavily maintained ATV tracks that range from easy to most difficult. The trail system is open from April to December 31, but closure may occur after significant rainfall, so call before you haul. Riders must secure an OHV Trail Permit found at the self-pay kiosk. Local ranger stations provide annual passes. The trails are open to motorcycles, dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, UTVs, and SXS only.
There are three sites available for dispersed camping. There paved main staging area is spacious enough to accommodate large trailers. The trail follows the ridge, so it has some spectacular views. However, be careful when driving these parts because it has several blind spots, so avoid going too fast and losing control. Its also accessible during winter.
Tray Mountain is great for any vehicle, whether its an ATV or an SUV. Its wide and easy enough to ride on. The trail gets a bit bumpy and rocky near the top, though. However, its best to be prepared with extra tires because some of the ditches could cause problems, especially for Jeeps.
