Frequently Asked Questions And Answers
What are people saying about bike rentals in Santa Barbara, CA?
This is a review for bike rentals in Santa Barbara, CA:
“The most fun we had in Santa Barbara was renting Electric bikes! These bikes are beefy fat tires sturdier than regular bikes. We went all over the place and covered some ground. From State street to Montecito , and Summerland , to the older part of town the courthouse area. These bikes make it so easy especially hills. We came back to our bikes after walking about and a tire was flat! Ok don’t panic, called the bike shop and they sent someone out within 20 minutes with a new bike ! Great service! We highly recommend so fun!!They also discounted our rate when we got back due to flat tire. Make a day of it and you get exercise too! Bonus”

Electric Bike Rental Program Will Roll Out Later This Month In Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The wheels are in motion for an electric bike rental program to be launched later this month in Santa Barbara.
The original plan for a mid-month start is being changed slightly to the end of January, due to the COVID-19 slowdown.
General manager of Bcycle Jesse Rosenberg says docking stations have gone in along the State Street promenade, on the Westside, the Eastside and up on the Mesa.
“We have all our docks lined up on State Street, so we are good to go on State Street,” said Rosenberg. “We’re just testing docks.”
She says the company wants to give those renting the electric bikes, “the best experience they can.”
The Bcycles will be available with fees by the half-hour, by the month or with an annual plan.
They can be activated and unlocked by your phone.
A special app will show you where they are located and where they can be returned.
The information on your phone will also feature safe bike routes and allow you a secure payment process.
The Bcycles will have a top speed of 17 miles per hour.
This program went through a city review as part of the Santa Barbara effort to encourage more bike riding and less vehicle traffic.
Since the coronavirus outbreak, with more people seeking outdoor options to recreate, the electric bike business has been very strong. Some sellers say they had their best year ever in 2020.
The Bcycle option is already in use in other cities and serves both the casual rider and the everyday rider.

How Do You Intend To Use Your Bike
Electric bicycles now come in many styles with each category offering a different use. All of the bikes we sell have pedal-assist mid-drive motors. The motor in the bottom/middle of the bike offers better stability, a lower center of gravity, and the feel of riding a traditional bike. Another benefit to mid-drive motors is the synergy with the bikes gears which provides higher efficiency with the battery and translates into longer riding range per charge.
Class 1 eBikes are allowed in all bike lanes and Class 3 ebikes are allowed in bike lanes with some restrictions.

Bike Sharing Docks Installed In Downtown Santa Barbara
Electric bicycle docks are now being installed throughout downtown Santa Barbara for bike rentals starting next year.
The program is operated by Bcycle who will provide and maintain 250 electric bicycles and 30 stations located throughout downtown and the waterfront areas, with the possibility to expand to other neighborhoods.
Members of the public will be able to unlock a bicycle using a mobile phone app that charges a rental fee based on the time used and can be returned to any dock location.
“Communities with bike share programs have reported many benefits including increased health and wellness for its communities, a zero carbon emission choice for transportation as well as increased patronage of businesses near the bike dock locations,” stated the Downtown Santa Barbara Organization in an email.
The in-street bike dock locations for the initial pilot program in the downtown area include:
Bank of the West, Night Lizard Brewery, Lululemon, Montecito Bank & Trust, Paseo Nuevo, Restoration Hardware, Carlitos, The Apple Store, the previous Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Energy Tattoo, The Habit Burger Grill, CVS, Old Navy, Natasha and Msky.
Downtown businesses are also able to purchase an annual membership for employees to use the program.
The Bcycle app can be downloaded in the App Store or Google Play Store.
The program is expected to officially launch early next year.
