Stiffer Soled Power Pedalling Pumps

My opinon on Five Ten Sleuth DLX MTB shoes

Riding type: DH/Enduro | Pedal type: clipless

The key things of the Kestrel are all in the sole. The cleat box is much bigger than the old Maltese Falcon, allowing more greater pedal compatibility as cleat positioning. The sole in stiffened up by a nylon shank. The heel cup is non-slip. The sole is Stealth C4 rubber. Laces plus Velcro top strap closure.

Wet Weather Version Of The Freerider

Riding type: Trail/enduro/winter | Pedal type: flat

Five Ten have taken the basic Freerider and gone with a quick drying DWR treated upper to reduce the wet weather sogginess that regular Freeriders can suffer from. Still rocking the Stealth S1 dotty sticky rubber sole. Five Ten dont come out and say it, but these are pretty much the Five Ten Freerider Elements with a new name.

Rigidity And Power Transfer

adidas Five Ten Sleuth DLX Mountain Bike Shoes in Black and Red

As you’d likely expect, the Sleuth provides a so-so level of rigidity and transfer of power to the pedals with its less technical nature. While the Sleuth provides great off the bike walking comfort, that doesn’t necessarily help in the rigidity department. With the die-cut EVA midsole, the construction of the shoe provides a better connection between the rider and pedals than the average street or skate shoe. If you’re looking for a less burly shoe with better efficiency, check out some of the more typical shoes in our review. We felt the Sleuth lives up to the expectations of a casual shoe that still rides well enough for shorter rides.

Review: Five Ten Sleuth Dlx Canvas Mtb Shoes Flex For Grip

Posted on June 30, 2022 by Jessie-May Morgan

Since getting the Five Ten Sleuth DLX Canvas shoes in for testing, Ive received a number of comments from my riding buddies including, Did you forget you riding shoes today?, and why are you wearing your pub shoes for riding?. Its undeniable they do look supremely casual. But, that doesnt mean they cant perform on the trail.

Despite its rather lifestyle-oriented aesthetic, the Sleuth DLX Canvas gets the same 60a durometer Stealth Rubber out-sole youll see on the Freerider Classic and Pro Shoes its unrivaled tackiness makes Five Ten the market leader in flat pedal mountain bike shoes.

Theyve been in the lineup for quite some time, but this latest version of the DLX Canvas pairs that rubber with an unusual upper material composed of Parley Ocean plastic up-cycled marine plastic waste recovered via Parley interception and cleanup operations in coastal areas of the Maldives. Making shoes out of Ocean Plastic isnt going to clean up our marine habitats, but it could help raise awareness of the threat, and get people involved in organised clean ups near them.

I spent the last few dry months in Scotland testing the Five Ten Sleuth DLX Canvas shoes for trail and enduro riding. Heres how they fared.

The Best Mountain Biking Shoe: Five Ten | Trailside Review

First off, the Five Ten Sleuth DLX Canvas sizing is a little off with respect to the shoe sizing for other brands. In pretty much every other mountain bike shoe Ive ever owned, a UK 5 fits perfectly. With the Five Ten TrailCross Gore-Tex Waterproof Shoes I tested over winter, I had to go down to a UK 4.5 for the best fit, and the same is true for the Sleuth DLX Canvas reviewed here.

Five Ten do have a sizing guide, however, and you should definitely pay attention to it. A UK 4.5 is the size recommended for my 9 feet, so the guide is spot on. The Sleuth DLX Canvas is available in UK Sizes 3.5 up to 9.5 . In the US, mens sizing options run from Size 4-20, and the womens run from Size 5-15.5.

The DLX Canvas is absurdly comfortable, offering what is probably the most flexible sole of any flat pedal mountain bike shoe on the market. As a lighter rider , I am pretty stoked on this. I find a lot of shoes are simply too stiff, and dont allow the sole to conform to the shape of the pedal as much as I would like examples include older generations of Ride Concepts shoes, and Enduras MT500 Burner Flats and the Specialized 2FO DH .

No rider weight limit for the Pinned CS2 pedals pictured here long-term review on the way! Credit: Blair Kemp.

For heavier riders, Id be concerned the Sleuth DLX Canvas could be too flexible, and may not be able to offer the support theyre looking for from a mountain bike shoe.

Which Adidas Five Ten Mountain Bike Shoes Are Right For You

With more than twenty models the range of Five Ten mountain bike shoes is baffling. Don’t worry, we’ve sorted them all out into this easy-to-follow guide.

Adidas Five Ten regularly features in our list of the best mountain bike shoes, but the footwear king has an extensive and sometimes confusing range of options. Such that shoes that look the same can often perform differently thanks to different materials, construction and rubber. Which is why weve created this guide to which Adidas Five Ten shoes are right for you.

Capable Of Milder Riding In Milder Conditions

Riding type: Casual/dirt jum | Pedal type: flat

The first shoe in Five Tens range that can legitimately be called a mountain bike shoe. Sleuth DLX is biased a bit more towards actual MTBing, complete with Stealth Phantom rubber sole, toe box protector and heel cup. Good enough for less extreme riding in fairer terrain and weather. We suppose you can kind of think of it as a more casual Freerider. Available in a mid-top cut called the Sleuth DLX Mid for £110). Wed still opt for the cheaper classic Freerider .

Five Tens Version Of A Casual Skate Style Shoe

Riding type: Casual/dirt jump | Pedal type: flat

Pretty much a casual shoe for MTBers. Non-Stealth rubber. Nothing overly fancy in terms of uppers material. Nothing in the way of toe box or heel cup protection. Think of it like a skate shoe except from Five Ten and not Vans. And like Vans, the Sleauth is also available in a slip-on version

Adidas Five Ten Sleuth DLX

The Benchmark Flat Shoe For Trail Riding

adidas Five Ten Sleuth Mountain Bike Shoes

Riding type: Trail/enduro | Pedal type: flat

Lighter and quicker drying than the basic Freerider models. Toe protection box. The same dotty Stealth S1 sole as the regular Freerider. OrthoLite sockliner, in other words an ergonomically shaped insole. But the absolute key significant thing that the Freerider Pros have over the regular Freerider is a moulded EVA midsole. Which sounds like the most boring thing ever but this layer of shock absorbing material between the pedal and the riders foot adds a whole load of added comfort and control to the ride. The Freerider. Full stop. No suffix. The entry level Five Ten. A single- or multi-coloured upper made from suede and mesh. Dotty tread pattern made from Stealth S1. Arguably significantly less fancily constructed upper compared to the Sleuth DLX but and its a very big but the sole is proper Stealth S1 dotty sticky rubber. Which is want counts on the trails.

The differences between this Pro and the regular Hellcat are subtle and, to be blunt, pretty irrelevant for most riders. The uppers are lighter and made with abrasion resistant joins and theres an ergonomically shaped footbed/sockliner inside. Most clipped in riders will be fine with the regular Hellcat but pros and racers looking for all the margincal gains they can get, the Hellcat Pros will see you very well. The Hellcat Pros are also a tad more splash-proof than regular Hellcats.
