OnGuard Brute LS U-Lock
- Clips to waistband
Cons
Urban cyclists have for years been stuffing mini U-locks into back pockets and beneath belts, which works fine but isnt too comfortable. So Hiplok reimagined the U-lock with a crucial addition: a clip. With it, the lock slides onto your waistband and isnt annoying to ride with, so long as you have a tight enough waistband. The rest of the lock is formidable, with a 14mm shackle that locks on both sides of the crossbar. In an individual test, the shackle defeated the blade on our hacksaw rather quickly, but fell victim to a five-inch cordless angle grinder in about 30 secondsan average time for cutting a hardened steel shackle, and two cuts are needed to defeat this lock.
Fubozone Heavy Duty Bike Chain Locks
The Fubozone is a heavy-duty bike chain lock that will give maximum security to the bike. Made with tough and high-quality materials, this long bike chain lock will provide many features and benefits to the rider and the bike. As a brand, I know the company is making high-quality products, including this chain lock, while also focusing on customer-oriented philosophy.
If you ask me whats the outstanding feature of this product? I should say its the perfect design. I have checked the physical characteristics, and I can say that the length, diameter, and thickness fit nicely into the bike. In terms of quality, It looks very durable and sturdy to me. Thanks to the manganese steel, which makes this chain lock resistant to cutting and sawing. You can never go wrong with the quality and protection you can get from the chain lock.
Also, this is a solid and heavy chain that will protect your bike from outside threats. With its overall thickness and chain size, this chain lock is also fit for other purposes such as locking a motorbike, scooters, toolboxes, and other various security applications. You cannot also underestimate the nylon belt, which will cover and protect the chain from scratches and other outside threats.
However, one minor issue I see in the product is the difficulty of taking the key out after unlocking or locking it. Although, this should be normal if it is the first time to use the keys. You need to figure out what to do with this bit of inconvenience.
Amazer Heavy Duty Bike Lock
The Amazer U lock is made of 12mm hardened steel shackle that is covered by a 3 PVC coating. The Shackle coupled with the PVC coating makes it nearly unbreakable from leverage attacks and can resist cutting.
The smart bike lock for all bike types offers keyless entry. You can set a 4 digit passkey and enable quick and easy operation that takes no time at all.
The double bolt mechanism makes the bike lock pretty strong and durable. Unlike other premium bike locks, the Amazer U Lock is lightweight and easy to carry. You get an easy to fix mounting bracket that makes it easy to carry around.
The alloy steel shackle, combined with the polycarbonate cylinder can withstand extreme force and pressure. Moreover, the device is quite weatherproof and can withstand harsh weather.

Top 5 Best Motorcycle Chain Locks
Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Welcome to our new guide on the best chain locks for motorcycles. These locks are an amateur thiefs worst nightmare. Even a pro will think twice about messing with your bike once you add one of these colossal chain locks to your motorcycle security arsenal.
We dug deeper than the next guy to uncover some unique options you may not have seen before. We dont like to recommend anything that cant stand up to even the sturdiest bolt cutters. The only way a thieve is breaking through one of these locks and chains is with an acetylene torch or Herculean grip.
Whether you live in the city or just want that extra peace of mind that comes with a heavy-duty chain lock for your bike, weve got you covered with our picks below.
The Best 10mm Chain Locks

10mm bicycle chain locks are only slightly more secure than the 9mm chains above. They do however offer increased protection for your bike and offer more resistance to bolt cutters. However, 10mm is still not ideal as if a thief had enough time and strength they could use bolt croppers to defeat these chains.
Kryptonite Series 4 1090 Integrated Chain
The Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Integrated chain lock is the first of my 10mm bicycle chain recommendations.
This bike chain is similar to the 9mm Series 2 Kryptonite lock above but offers a higher level of security for its users.
The Series 4 uses Kryptonites patented Oval Crossbar Lock Head along with their patent-pending End Link Design, to provide a strong, secure lock.
Each link of the Series 4 chain is 10mm thick and is made from 3T manganese steel.
There are four different lengths available for the Evolution Series 4, 21.7 , 35.5 and 5.25 .
The shorter 55cm chain doesnt offer a huge amount of locking space, but it is much more portable than the longer variants.
The 90cm variant provides plenty of locking room and could even be used to secure multiple bikes. The 90cm chain weighs in at 6.1lb making it heavy, but this could still be used as a portable bike chain lock.
Sold Secure gave the Evolution Series 4 the prized Gold security rating. Like all of Kryptonites locks, youll receive a lifetime warranty with the Evolution Series 4.

Choosing A Stationary Chain Lock
If we’re choosing a chain lock to leave at home , we don’t need to worry about the “risk level” questions…
Over 50% of stolen bikes are taken from the owners home. So your bike is actually more at risk at home than it is when it’s locked on the street.
With that in mind, my advice is: get the most secure bike lock you can afford. And this means the thickest chain lock you can afford.
And the great thing is: we don’t have to worry about how we’re going to carry it around!
14 mm chain locks
When we get to 14 mm chains, were no longer talking about mobile security. These are not locks that you take with you to the shops.
Their bulk and weight mean that generally you leave them wherever you lock your bike overnight.

However a 14 mm chain lock could be taken out with you occasionally if you’re visiting a particularly high risk area or you’ll be leaving your bike unattended for a long period.
These locks are very secure indeed. The Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit not only has Gold rating from Sold Secure. It also has a Motorcycle Gold which is an even more demanding rating.
That’s not say they can’t be cropped though. They can. 14 mm chains can conceivably be cut by the very biggest bolt cutters. But it takes a experienced thief, of considerable weight who is also able to get the chain in the right position.
There’s not a lot to choose between the Kryptonite and OnGuard chains here. They’re both great locks!
OnGuard Beast: very secure and usually cheap!

Best Bike Chain Locks Available Today
Every time we dive into a list of our favourite bike locks the Hiplok Gold pops up again. The more security you have on hand, the harder a bike chain lock is to carry. Hiplok has been at the forefront of solving this challenge through wearability and the Hiplok Gold is both portable and Sold Secure Gold rated.
Although it weighs over 2kg, due to the 10mm chain, Hiplok uses a system that allows it to be carried without locking. There’s a bar on the lock side and a plastic buckle that snaps into the bar on the other side. When you are ready to lock a bike, take it off your waist, open the lock, and connect the lock to the chain that’s on the other side of the waist bracket.
The superbright version pictured here also adds visibility while riding. The only downside is all that security does mean you’ve got to deal with a bit of weight. Have a read of our Hiplock Gold bike lock review if you want to know more.
Weve been doing a lot of research on bike locks and during the process we asked cyclists who had a bike stolen while locked and how it happened. The story of a brand-new bike stolen off a rack while filling up gas on the way home was a story that stood out. The integrated cable lock on the rack got clipped while the owner was inside buying a snack. Its a unique challenge needing a unique lock that wont scratch a frame and has a bit more length.
Sportneer Bicycle Chain Locks
If you are looking for comfort in looking for the best padlock for a bike chain, I highly recommend the Sportneer Bicycle chain lock. Using a keyless locking mechanism, you will no longer need to have that responsibility of putting the keys in a safe place or the chance to misplaced them and get stressed in locating them. The keyless convenience will provide comfort and peace of mind while focusing on securing your bike.
Compared to the Ubullox chain lock, they share similar features but may differ in design and overall structure. They have a similar locking mechanism of using 5-digit number combinations in locking and unlocking the bike. There are also other notable differences such as the length, the size, and probably the quality. I will leave it up to you to choose which is the best, but both have passed our tests in terms of reliability and quality.
I have experience using this lock before, and I can say that this is one of my favorite bike locks. It feels light, but you can see the durability once you use it. I have wrapped it around my bike frame quickly, and it is easy to use. I also remember the first time I use it the instructions included in the product were self-explanatory. You can change the password easily the moment you use it for the first time.
The only issue I see in using this bike chain lock is if you forget your 5-digit combination. I know there are ways to hack or get around with this problem, but it will be inconvenient to you if it happens.

Also Great: Kryptonite Keeper 585
Theres a small intersection in the bicycle-lock world, a place where the features of a U-lock, chain, or cable dont neatly triangulate. Perhaps you regularly find yourself in a location where a U-lock cant fit around what youre trying to lock your bike to, but a chain is much too heavy for you to carry, and a cable lock isnt secure enough . In that case, a folding lock might be the solution to your problem, and among models in that category, the Kryptonite Keeper 585 offers the best combination of security, weight, and price.
The Keeper 585 folding lock measures 85 cm long and weighs 1.7 pounds, and it comes with $500 of anti-theft protection from Kryptonite . A folding lock is not very secure because the rivets in the hinges are easily compromised with a drill. And folding locks also dont provide that much weight or size advantage over a U-lock.
The rivets on the Keeper 585 are 3 mm hardened steel. You can find folding locks that use thicker, 5 mm rivets, such as the Rocky Mounts Hendrix and even other Kryptonite models, but we drilled through them in nearly the same amount of time as we did the smaller rivets. Judging from our findings, we can say it takes a lot more than an additional 2 mm of metalmore like 10 mm to get in the way of power tools.
Is A Chain Lock Better Than A U
We talked about this a little in the intro but bike chain locks are just one option of many so you might wonder why choose a chain vs a U-lock? The big advantage of chain locks is that they are big and flexible. U-0locks work best with bike specific infrastructure but the most secure options are also smaller. As they shrink in size, they get very difficult to use to lock a bike to a signpost. Chains make it easy to lock your bike to all kinds of anchor points. They also tend to do a little better against portable angle grinders because they can be difficult to hold still.

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit
Kryptonite is one of the leading manufacturers of security locks for bikes. The New York Fahgettaboudit chain lock is built with 3T manganese steel with 14mm six-sided chain links. For max performance, the shackle is armed with 15mm hardened steel.
The disc-style cylinder is resistant to pick and drill. At the same time, the double deadbolt design contributes additional protection against twist attacks. In addition, the chain lock has been rated 10/10 on Kryptonites security scale.
It comes with three stainless steel keys with one LED replaceable key fob. In contrast, the sliding dust cover protects the motorcycle from scratches. Kryptonite also offers an optional Anti Theft Program where the company covers a percentage of the loss if your vehicle has been stolen.
The chain lock comes in two different sizes: 100cm, weighing 6.92kg, and 150cm, with a weight of 4.91kg.
How To Choose The Best Chain Lock For You

I imagine that you already know whether you want a mobile or stationary lock. It’s a pretty clear distinction…
You’ll use a mobile chain lock every day, carrying it around on your bike and securing it around your bike and the various street furniture in your neighborhood.
Whereas a stationary chain lock will be left at home and only used there to secure your bike over longer periods of time.
But what if you want both? Do you want a chain lock that you can carry around every day and use at home overnight? Well, there are locks that can do both. But they don’t do either really well.
A two lock system is usually the most secure and practical option.
But we’ll cover them all…

Best Motorcycle Chain Lock In 2022 For Ultimate Security
You already know that chain locks provide the most protection when it comes to securing your ride. More than 50% of motorcycle thefts are from home and garages. The best motorcycle chain locks are resistant to cutters, metal saws, and leverage attacks.
Although theres no such motorcycle lock that is unbreakable, a chain lock takes a lot of time and effort to break-in. Also, it is not possible to break with small portable tools that are used to attack U locks.
Motorcycle chain locks are protective due to their build quality and size It is mainly designed to secure the motorcycle at home with a ground anchor or a post. Thus, moving around with them can be difficult due to their heavy weight. Their length size also gives us the option to secure more than one bike at a time.
The resistance of a motorcycle chain lock depends on the size of its link. Always remember thicker the link, the stronger the chain. Though chain locks come in different sizes, I have segregated them into three categories according to the size of the links. Remember, a small pair of bolt cutters can easily crop any links smaller than 9mm.
What About Insurance Offers For Bike Chain Locks
Some bike locks come packaged with insurance offers. These are nice for peace of mind but there’s a few details you should be careful about. The biggest thing to remember is that these are insurance offers and that means they are very specific. There is no wiggle room for not quite meeting some requirements. Make sure you follow the instructions exactly. In the case of Kyrptonite that means you need to have registered at the time you bought the lock so make sure you start there.
Another good option for insurance is to add your own bike specific insurance and we have an article covering the best bike insurance. More coverage is better than less so doubling up wont hurt.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers
We still believe that thanks to the hardness of the shackle and the difficulty of squeezing a car jack into a properly locked New-U Evolution Mini-7, it will thwart most attacks better than any other lock at this price. But if youre in a high-risk area or if you live in Manhattan, where the only locks covered by Kryptonites anti-theft protection are the New York series, you should probably upgrade to the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit.
And although the Mini-7 comes with one of the better mounts for attaching it to a bike frame, that isnt saying much. U-locks are the bane of bicycle mechanics everywhere because the mounts always seem to be in an awkward spot or to come loose over time. If at all possible, carrying this lock on a rack or in a basket is definitely the preferred method, but the mount will suffice.
