Biktrix Xd Unveiled As Mind
Canadian electric bike company Biktrix has never shied away from high-power motors. Several of the brands e-bikes feature what used to be one of the most powerful mid-drive e-bike motors on the market: the Bafang M620 Ultra motor. I say used to be because it has now been surpassed by Biktrixs own in-house developed Biktrix XD motor, and the new motor solves all of the major problems weve previously seen with such high-power mid-drives.
High power electric bicycles are a blast because they allow new types of riding that wouldnt have been previously possible. Hills that are so steep that they can be difficult to climb on foot can suddenly be biked up.
But the problem with high-power mid-drive motors on e-bikes has traditionally been that they tend to destroy the bikes, or more specifically, the bicycle chains and rear gears that were never designed for those loads.
A healthy mountain-biker can sustain several hundreds of watts each hour. A high-power mid-drive motor like the infamous Bafang M620 Ultra can sustain 1,000W for days and often peaks closer to 1,500W. Thats a recipe for breaking chains and ripping teeth off of gears, something that multiple Electrek staff have experienced.
So when Biktrix went about designing its XD motor to be even more powerful than that, they decided to flip the script and totally remove the bicycle drivetrain or at least add a second more powerful one next to it.

Battery Capacity And Run Times

Claimed run times can vary greatly and are dictated by a huge number of factors not only which assistance level is selected or how much capacity a battery has.
Bike and rider weight, tyre compound and pressure, the weather conditions, trail type and smoothness, and how hard a rider is pedalling all influence how long an ebikes battery can last.
That said, battery capacity is a good general indicator, where larger-capacity batteries will generally provide more range.
The Bosch motor is only compatible with Bosch batteries. The range starts with a 300Wh unit and increases to the headlining 1,250Wh battery. This makes it one of the biggest-capacity batteries.

Unlike Bosch, Shimanos EP8 motor can be paired with third-party batteries. Shimano has its own 504Wh and 630Wh units, too. SL ebikes such as the Orbea Rise use a 360Wh unit, while Norcos Range VLT with EP8 motor can be paired with a 900Wh battery capacity.
Meanwhile, Canyon has developed its own 720Wh and 900Wh batteries for use with the EP8 motor on the new Canyon Spectral:On.
Giants SyncDrive Pro motor features 625Wh and 750Wh battery capacities, but the Yamaha-branded version of the motor maxes out with a 600Wh capacity.
Specializeds 2.2 motor is fitted with up to 700Wh capacity batteries, but the Brose version maxes out with a 630Wh unit.
Do You Need A License For An Electric Motor Bike
If an electric motorbike is restricted to 15mph, has a motor of 250 watts output or less, and has pedals, it is legally an electric bicycle and can be ridden by anyone aged 14 or over. The Best Class 2 Electric Commuter Bike 2022
Rad Power Bikes really overhauled the latest iteration of their uber-popular commuter. The RadCity 5 Plus came equipped with a host of new parts on top of a freshly redesigned look. We were such fans of how the new RadCity came together that it easily sprang to our minds to be included on our list of best electric bikes.
The aesthetics upgrade is apparent: Rad swapped an exterior battery pack for a semi-integrated, frame-mounted battery. The modern paint job on a classic dutch-styled bike is a marriage that works quite well too. Rad also employed the use of a dual display set-up we rarely see which breaks up the information in a good way.
Powering the bike is a 672Wh battery and a 750W geared rear hub motor. Rad has dialed in the electronics to smoothly engage while riding and keep the rider comfortable and in control.
Not only does it roll well, but it stops well too. Where Are Ebike Motors Fitted

Electric mountain bike motors are usually fitted to the bikes main frame at the down-tube and seat-tube junction, replacing the bottom bracket. The motors attach to the frame with large, weight-supporting bolts that mean they can be removed for servicing or repair.
Thanks to its main frame location, the motor forms a part of the bikes suspended mass and lowers the centre of gravity, which can help improve handling and suspension. It means it doesnt rely on long cables that could get damaged to connect to its battery.

Motors that are integral with the rear-wheel hub are less common on mountain bikes, but are frequently found on cheaper hybrid or commuter models.
Which Is The Best For You
Its tough to give a definitive response to this issue because peoples preferences differ. However, if I were to make a common appraisal among all of mentioned above watt ebikes, I would recommend the 750W ebike motor.
All of these ebikes motors are proficient for tough tasks, but the 750W option will surely provide greater power. It will let you climb up to the hills and run on difficult terrain more successfully than a 500W ebike motor. The 750W and 1000W ebike motors have a more sophisticated crowning speed than the 500W ebike motor. Furthermore, the faster they overcome barriers, the better.

Tq And The Trek Fuel Exe
Most of us had never heard of TQ until the launch of the Trek Fuel EXe. Its a German brand that makes motors and components for robots, satellites, space stations and mars rovers. Literally space-age stuff. Now its partnered with Trek and introduced us to a new motor thats impressively light, powerful and quiet. Best of all, weve had a go on the new bike, turn to page xx and you can check out our first ride impressions.
Whats different about the new TQ-HPR50 motor isnt exactly the weight and the size of the unit, although it is indeed very light, coming in at 1,850g. The Specialized SL motor weighs around the same at 1950g. No, the new bit is the amount of power it generates and the lack of noise it makes while its doing so 50 Nm of torque and 300W peak power are the seriously impressive headline figures. Suddenly the SLs 35Nm and 240W start to sound a little underwhelming.
The TQ-HPR50 also claims to be extremely quiet and reliable, thanks to its minimal use of parts and lower RPM than a conventional e-bike motor. There are no cog wheels inside either, meaning less friction, which is great for the engines power and yours. Theres less noise because of that too, less wear and less chance of it failing, TQ says.
For two years, the Specialized Kenevo SL was the poster boy for e-bike riders who didnt like e-bikes. If any bike was going to convert the sceptical, it was little Ken. Not anymore.

Which Motor Is Most Powerful
Glancing at the table above, youll immediately see some major differences in the power and torque output of the different motors. The Specialized SL 1.1 is one of the weakest, generating a mere 35 Nm torque, whereas the most powerful motor, the TQ HPR 120 S, is capable of generating three and a half times that. This is by no means an indication of how good or how bad either of those motors is. Instead these differences are the result of completely different concepts: the compact FAZUA Ride 50 Evation and Specialized SL 1.1 motors belong to a category of light eMTBs which offer minimal assistance in a lightweight package these are the motors that will make analog mountain bikes redundant. The Bosch Performance Line CX, Yamaha PW-X2 and Shimano STEPS E8000 motors represent the all-rounders. The Brose Drive S Mag also belongs in this category of eMTBs, though it is noticeably more powerful than the Shimano or Bosch, allowing you to get up the climbs just that little bit quicker. Both the TQ and SACHS motors are even faster uphill, with over a 100 Nm torque on offer. However, built around these systems tend to be heavier too, having to be matched with components that are more robust and requiring a bigger battery. These bikes are designed less for aggressive trail riding than for having as much fun as possible with maximum power.
