Security: A Clever Built
There’s only one sure-fire way to ensure a quick thief with a pair of wire cutters won’t abscond with your bikedon’t leave it unattended. But if you do need to make a quick pit stop before or after biking, you’ll appreciate the rack’s bike locks built into each front tire arm. A wire cord pulls out of the arm, wraps through the front fork, and locks back into the arm with the accompanying key The locks retract into the arms when not needed, meaning you’ll never be without a lock in a pinch. Of course, the more locks, the better, and owners of expensive bikes will likely want to use at least one additional lock if they can’t keep their eyes on the bikes for an extended time.
Best Bike Rack For 2022
You can carry your bike behind the car, on top of it or even in a truck flatbed.
Riding a bicycle from Point A to Point B is easy and a lot of fun. Getting a bike from Point A to Point B without riding it? That’s trickier. If you like to ride on vacation or if you prefer a path that’s a bit far from home, then you know how valuable the right bike rack can be.
The issue is that there are as many bike racks as there are bicycles. Finding the one that’s right for you means sifting through a deluge of models with different mounting styles, different holding capacities and different price points. It’s critical to be pointed in the right direction at the start of your journey.
That’s precisely why we created this list, which features the best bike racks available in a variety of categories, based on expert opinion and customer satisfaction. After our picks, read on for more information about selecting and using the bike rack that’s right for you.
What About The Thule Apex Xt
You might also notice the Thule Apex XT in your research on bike racks. We obviously like Thule products so are fans of the Apex, but it is a hanging style rack. We really prefer the wheel-mounted racks. They are just so much more stable on the road and the bikes stay way more stationary.
Most importantly, all bike sizes generally fit on a wheel-mounted bike rack, whereas the hanging-style racks are often difficult for kids bikes or womens bike designs to fit on.
Spend a little more and go with the Thule T2 Pro XT versions.

Thule T2 Pro Rack Length

Compared to other hitch platform racks, the extra-wide bike spacing of the Thule T2 Pro models does make them longer than other racks, especially when the extension is added to make it 4-capacity. So in addition to extending farther out past the rear of the vehicle when loaded, the rack also extends taller up the rear of the vehicle when folded up.
Although the four different racks shown below are all on different cars, the Thule Pro shown is actually on the largest vehicle and still extends up to the top of the car.
The 4-capacity Saris Superclamp EX shown above is great for those who dont want their rearview obstructed. As a word of caution, however, we found the Saris Superclamp struggled to fit four 27.5 and 29 full-size mountain bikes without contact between the bikes.

How Do I Choose A Bike Rack
To choose a bike rack that’s right for you, you need to start by evaluating your needs, your preferences, your car and your budget. Certain types of racks — like roof racks and hanging racks — require users to lift their bikes high up to get them into position, while platform racks require much less lifting. There are racks — like spare tire racks and truck bed racks — that only work with certain vehicles, depending on their configurations. In terms of budget, trunk-mounted racks are usually the least-expensive option, while platform racks tend to be the most expensive.
Ease Of Removal And Storage
The T2 Pro uses a tool-free system to secure the rack to a vehicle. Just slide the rack into the hitch receiver and release the stinger pin, which drops into the hole that traditionally would hold the locking pin. Then, a knob is turned on the body of the rack that secures the rack to the vehicle and prevents wobble. One of the included keys is used to secure the knob, preventing theft. This may seem like a trivial feature, but if you’re removing your rack from your vehicle on a regular basis it can be a huge time saver. Other racks, like the first generation Thule T2 Classic, use a threaded hitch pin to prevent wobble that requires a wrench for attachment and removal. While the threaded pin system works quite well, using a wrench can be frustrating and time-consuming due to the cramped working space.
The T2 Pro XT takes up a lot of space when stored, and moving it around on a regular basis is not all that enjoyable since it weighs 51 lbs. The Kuat Sherpa and the Yakima Dr. Tray are both lighter and easier to carry to and from the garage. If limited storage is an issue than the 1Up USA Heavy Duty Quick Rack packs up smaller than any other platform hitch rack in the test.

What Are The Different Types Of Car Bike Racks
Bicycle racks for cars differ in a number of ways including weight capacity, price and construction material. That said, the way they’re usually split up is based on their shape and the way they attach to vehicles. A platform rack, for instance, attaches to the back of a car and provides an actual platform where bikes can rest, wheels down. A hanging rack also attaches to the back of a car, but it holds the bicycles by their frames . A trunk-mounted bike rack attaches to a car’s trunk and is held in place by straps. Roof and truck bed racks attach to those respective areas of vehicles and hold bikes in a horizontal configuration. Finally, spare tire racks attach to the backs of vehicles that have external spare tire storage .
Each type of rack has its own benefits and drawbacks. For instance, platform racks are the easiest to load as bikes don’t need to be lifted very high to be mounted — but platform racks are also typically the most expensive choice. They’re also heavy and harder to store when not in use. Hanging racks are cheaper and easier to store, but loading requires lifting bikes higher. Bikes also have to be shaped in a way that accommodates the rack in order to use it, while platform racks are simply stands that any bike can rest on. Both kinds of racks add length to a vehicle.
Thule T2 Pro Xt Bike Rack Review
Posted on – Last updated: April 18, 2021
At some point, whether you ride regularly or have kids getting into biking, you need to get a bike rack for your vehicle unless you have a pickup truck with a Dakine mat so you can sling your bikes front wheels over the rear gate.
When our kids bikes were small, I just chucked them in the hatch until our oldest got a mountain bike. That meant I needed a bike too. And thats when I discovered electric bikes. I gave one a test-ride and knew that was the bike for me.
Thing is, electric mountain bikes weigh a ton .
I didnt know it at the time but that would mean Id need a heavy-duty tray-style bike rack.
Since mountain biking is hugely popular in our neck of the woods, there was no shortage of people to ask about which bike rack I should get.
Most told me a Thule tray rack with two-bike extension is the best given the bike load Id be hauling around.
Not one to ignore sound advice, thats what I bought. Its the Thule T2 Pro XT bike rack to be exact.
Ive had this rack for one year now. Weve hauled bikes on it at least 30 times. Probably more. Its still going strong.
Here is my detailed review.

Wheel Size And Tire Width Compatibility
Wheel size and tire width arent major considerations when choosing a hanging rack, but those that opt for the platform style will want to verify their bikes will fit in the included trays. The good news is that the majority of road and mountain bikers wont have a problem at allevery platform rack on our list can fit 26- to 29-inch wheels and 3-inch and under tires. Its when you get to the extreme ends of the spectrum with 12- to 24-inch kids bikes or fat bikes with 4- to 5-inch tires that problems can crop up.
One of the reasons that the Thule T2 Pro XTR took the top spot on our list is its ability to fit so many bike styles straight out of the box. Its the only one that can both accommodate 20- to 29-inch wheels and tires up to 5 inches wide . Others, like the Kuat NV 2.0, require two separate adapters to fit bikes with wheels between 20 to 24 inches and tires larger than 2.75 inches. For reference, purchasing both Kuat adapters isnt costly at around $20, but they are separate pieces that youll need to store when not in use.
Evolving Strategies Of Elite Legitimisation In The Variants Of The Fr Fornjti Origin Myth

Fimmtudaginn 24. mars, 2022, kl. 16.30Lögbergi 101
The origin myth Frá Fornjóti ok hans ættmönnum survives in two variants, Fundinn Noregr and Hversu Noregr byggðist, both of which are preserved in Flateyjarbók. Both variants describe the descent from a primordial being named Fornjótr to the siblings Nórr, Górr, and Gói and the brothers quest to find their sister after she is abducted. Along the way, Nórr conquers the mainland of northwestern Scandinavia and creates the kingdom of Norway, which he bequeaths to his sons. Górr conquers Norways coastal islands, becoming a sækonungrsea-king. Despite this shared narrative core, significant differences in detail between the two variants attest to their differing histories. Fundinn Noregr survives as the preface to Orkneyinga saga, and is thus dated to, at the latest, that sagas second production phase in the 1220s or 30s. Hversu Noregr byggðist is attested much later, and in the form preserved in Flateyjarbók shows signs of extensive expansion in the fourteenth century.

Thule T2 And T2 Pro Xt Overview
Thule T2 Classic
We love the Thule car bike carriers because, in our experience, they are well-built and very intuitive to use even for someone who is new to cycling. They cost a little more, but car bike carriers are one area where you truly get what you pay for. Skimp and your bike will be hanging from a flimsy carrier while you are doing 65mph down the road.
The Thule brand name, build quality, and reputation for durability all contribute to the premium pricing, but what you get for it is a premium product. Not to mention, if you ever decide to sell it used, you will fetch a lot more for a Thule than you will for a no-name rack from China.
The expense of a lost or damaged bike obviously depends on the bike itself, and it follows that serious cyclists with significant investment in their bikes should invest proportionally in racks to carry them. That means eschewing the private-label racks from the discount tool supply or mega-combo department-grocery for a more thoughtfully engineered and constructed rack from a respected brand. Any model carried by a bike shop or upscale sporting outlet fits that bill, but few brands are as synonymous with quality rack and carrier solutions as the venerable Swedish outfit Thule . Dating to the 1960s, Thules current line features carriers for everything from skis to stand-up paddleboards, including their most refined bike racks yet.
We are big fans of the T2 bike rack lineup.
Beesafe / Beemybox Findet Investoren

Tilts For Hatch Access
If you have a hatch vehicle like us, sometimes en route you need to access the hatch. Its a good thing Thule thought about this because this rack can tilt downward so that the vehicles hatch door can swing open.
This feature comes in handy all the time as we inevitably need to grab something out of the back and we sure dont want to unload the bikes to do so.
What Makes The Thule T2 Pro Xtr And X Stand Out From Other Platform Hitch Racks
While many nuances exist between the various brands, looking strictly at numbers, the Thule racks outperform other racks in three areas tray spacing, weight capacity per tray, and fat-tire capabilities.
Space Between Trays: While seemingly minor, the extra inches between the trays can make a big difference, especially when loading up mountain bikes with wide handlebars. Handlebars hitting saddles and shepherds hooks hitting derailleurs can quickly become a challenge. An extra inch quickly goes a long way to eliminating contact between bikes on a rack.
Max Tire Width: If you dont have a fat bike or dont plan on getting one, there really isnt a reason to fret over tire width.
Weight Capacity: Although the T2 Pro models dont have the highest total weight capacity , every tray on the Thule racks can hold a 50 lb. or 60 lb. bike.
While you should always load the heaviest bikes closest to the hitch on all bike racks, sometimes due to fitting issues, a heavy bike can end up on one of the extension trays. On the Thule, it isnt a problem, but could be problematic on the Saris or Rockymounts.
The T2 Pro racks are also built like a tank. Our rack has been through snow, rain, mud, and sand and we have never had to replace or repair a single part on our 5+ year-old rack.
